A complete renovation and historic rehabilitation of the historic Los Angeles Egyptian Theater.

Built in 1922, and originally opened as a silent film venue with over a 1,000 seat capacity, the Egyptian has been extensively modified over the course of the past 99 years. Severe damage to the historic fabric has occurred, and most recently the original house was converted into a 2 screen venue. This renovation will return the theater to a single screen, and rehabilitate major areas of the interiors with a focus on providing historic accuracy as well as 1920’s movie palace grandeur. The primary intention of this project is to foreground the history; as well as the installation of state of the art projection and audio technology. Technical installations also include the ability for broadcast of events which will be taking place at the venue. These technical installations will be either concealed, or as discreet as possible to respect the original interior.

A full structural upgrade is included in the scope of renovation, to bring the theater in conformance with current seismic codes. These upgrades will be concealed and will not alter the existing historic building elements.
